We have a timeshare exchange and one of the places is WorldMark at Depoe Bay. My husband, 11 year old son and I are planning to do a coastal Oregon trip the summer of 2007, and we wondering if anyone is familiar with WorldMark at Depoe Bay. We can also choose WorldMark Seaside or WorldMark Gleneden.
I have read in a few posts that Seaside has somewhat of a ';carnival'; atmosphere during the summer, so I am not sure we%26#39;d like that. We are looking for boating/canoeing, fishing, hiking, possible Newport Aquarium visit.
Any recommendations would be great. If you know of WorldMark at Depoe Bay or have stayed there, I%26#39;d be interested in what you thought.
Thanks.
WorldMark at Depoe Bay
We have stayed at all three.
Likely won%26#39;t go to Seaside again. Room was nice but place is right on Broadway which can get busy. Only a few units truly have ocean view. Our daughter, husband and 12 year old went for part of Spring break and had a great time, but they enjoy bustle more than I do.
We likely will go back to Gleneden. we like fact it is on beach. though several units do not face ocean. It is quiet place. My wife and daughter walked the beach a few times so did i but less so.
We own at Depoe Bay, have been going there for 5 years. it is like home. Have spent close to 5 months there, week at a time. we love it there. All our kids and grandkids have been there, some of them a lot. Every unit is ocean view and real close ocean. it sits over a rocky shoreline ad the ocean can get very interesting at times. we have seen whales from our room maybe 1/3 of the weeks we have been there. The one problem is you have to drive to get to a beach.
For what it is worth our daughter/grandaughter who enjoyed Seaside would pick Depoe Bay over it. They like it almost as much as we do.
Depoe Bay nice little town, fairly easy walk into town..
weeks at Whale Pointe do not come up a lot because one building under rennovation.
WorldMark at Depoe Bay
We have stayed at each of the resorts you mentioned. Here%26#39;s the pros/cons for each.....note: we have an 18 yr old daughter %26amp; 14 yr old son.
Depoe Bay -- Unbelievable view out of the floor to ceiling windows %26amp; sunsets are unforgetable! Sits on a cliff, so there is no beach access from the resort itself. We have often seen sea lions/seals playing in the surf below the cliff. The rooms are VERY nice and it is within walking distance of the little town of Depoe Bay (1/4 mile). Our kids like this resort for the most part, but it is probably a little more ';adult'; in feel. We have been to this one 4 times and have given it as ';gifts'; for friends to use on their honeymoon.
Gleneden -- Probably our favorite ';family'; resort along the coast. It also sits on the hillside, but there is beach access....lots of sand! One time (Nov 2003) my mom %26amp; I even saw about 20 seals swimming through the waves nose to tail as they made their way from Depoe Bay up to Lincoln City...that was VERY cool! This is a quiet resort as it sits back from the main rode (hwy 101) and is not near any of the costal cities---kind of between Lincoln City %26amp; Depot Bay. The resort is also very nice, but not not as ';plushy'; feeling as Depot Bay -- more of a ';rustic'; feel, so I guess ';homey'; is the word we would use. The pools are great and has a nice partial basketball court. We have been to this one 3 times. and have taken family/friends.
Seaside -- Wow! What%26#39;s not to love about this resort! It is brand new, so everything is still shiny and bright! The rooms are set up very well. It is smack in the middle of all the ';excitement'; of Seaside, so you dont have to get in the car again once you land there. The Boardwalk is great for taking your evening stroll or morning run. The flat sandy beach is just a few steps away from the resort. Depending upon when you go in the summer, you may run into the kite flying contests or sand castle building contests---we have been there for both and love it! There is alwys something to do if you chose to. Lots for kids (bumper cars, arcades, tons of shopping, small aquarium where they can feed the seals and miles of beach to roam on.) The pool at this resort is very nice with multicolored lights at night %26amp; little side fountains so the kids enjoy it. Two hot tubs for adults so you can watch the kids swim and enjoy your day, too! GAme room is very nice with a huge TV. We have stayed here at least 6 times and have taken family/friends and given it as ';gifts'; too.
Truly, you will be happy with any of the three resorts -- For fun %26amp; excitement at anytime of the night/day, I%26#39;d say Seaside. For family time and peace/quiet, I%26#39;d say Gleneden. For a little romance and elegance, I%26#39;d say Depoe Bay.
Hope this helps -- Enjoy!

Thanks, Donna, for your feedback on each of the three resorts. It was a very helpful synopsis of them.
Depoe Bay is our favorite of the three - right on the cliff overlooking the ocean - you can sometimes spot whales right from your balcony! You can walk into the small town of Depoe Bay too, which is nice. If you want to take the car, Lincoln City and Newport are only a few miles down the road. There isn%26#39;t really a beach there, though, so something to consider with kids.
Gleneden Beach is a nice hideaway, but a little in the boonies for us. Great that you can walk right down to the beach - your 11 year old will probably like that part, and the pool is right overlooking the ocean. However, there is really only one restaurant close by.
Seaside is brand new, right on the boardwalk, right on the beach, right in the heart of what passes for action in Seaside. Best location of any resort in town, in our opinion. Rooms normally won%26#39;t have an ocean view, but it%26#39;s just right there, so you can still hear the ocean, and it%26#39;s only to walk over to it. Across the street is Shilo Inn, what sadly is one of the best restaurants in Seaside, and there are arcades and family fun within a block. This also might be nice for your son.
All three are great in their own way. Typical Worldmark quality.
It%26#39;s great to hear peoples opinions of Worldmark Seaside as we are spending a week there in September on an RCI exchange.
From the descriptions, I think we have made the right choice for us as, although I like a peaceful holiday, my husband prefers the hustle and bustle and especially being able to take a walk in the evening and not having to drive everywhere. I am sure he will enjoy our week at Seaside, whereas I shall enjoy our second week touring the Oregon coast and our visit to Crater Lake, so we shall both be happy!!
We are looking forward to our visit very much.
Hi Angela! Seaside is great. We spend the majority of our summer there at our beach cottage, but the place you are staying is VERY nice. You will be in a great location, right at the Turnaround. September will be more quiet for you with the majority of the tourists thinning out after Labor Day.
Taste of Tuscany is a new Italian restaurant there you may enjoy, I have a review with photos posted here. There is also Sam%26#39;s Seaside Cafe that we like for a casual meal. You can also make easy day trips to Cannon Beach and Astoria. Let me know if you would like more info on this area, or if you have any specific questions. Have a great time and please report back with us after your travels! :)

Thank you for the information. I have posted one or two queries here and received very good help and information from the experts. I am also reading everyone elses posts and absorbing all the info I will also probably have a few more questions before our trip.
This site is so interesting and helpful.
You%26#39;re welcome! :)
Syrahgirl--We must have missed your review on your stay at the WorldMark Seaside.
I look forward to hearing how you like WorldMark..as a new resident of Portland, I hear a lot about how cheesy Seaside is too. I prefer Cannon Beach myself, but then, we don%26#39;t have kids with us..but the Oregon Coast is so beautiful and all the little towns are easy to get to, you don%26#39;t have to stay in Seaside all the time.
Yes, syrahgirl, when did you say you stayed in WorldMark?
And when will you be back in Oregon? The weather is nice right now :) Much cooler than California.
