Diamond Lake Campground

We are planning a trip in early August to Crater Lake and are considering camping at the diamond lake campground. While I typically would prefer backpacking or finding an off the beaten track car-camping spot, I now have four children under the age of four traveling with me and unfortunately need a few of the conveniences of a campground. Is the Diamond Lake Campground going to be crazy and crowded in August? Are the campsite%26#39;s sufficiently separated so that I won%26#39;t feel like we are setting up our tent on top of our neighbors? Any insights on the campground or suggestions for other accomodations would be very helpful?

There are several CGs at Diamond Lake

Plus some more remote nearby if you really want that

Diamond Lake Campground

I have been camping a few times at the %26#39;Diamond Lake%26#39; campground. I%26#39;d say about 60% of the sites don%26#39;t feel like your camping on your neighbor-but some probably would feel like this.Last time I went camping here during laborday weekend and it was filled to capactity. So I was expecting it to be crowded, but I didnt find it excessively loud or crazy for the amount of people there. I would assume it would be pretty full during the summer as this campground has the most amenities of the campgrounds at DL. Smokey the Bear even drove around the campground in the evening.

I%26#39;ve always wanted to stay at %26#39;Thielsen View%26#39; Campground on the other side of the lake-it seems a bit more calm there. Although it looks as if it could be bug-gy and also does not have modern restroom fascilities.

If you have flexibilty with your plans, the earlier in the week the better. These are fairly nice campgrounds and do fill up quickly, particularly on weekends. Some spots are right on top of one another, but most aren%26#39;t bad. They used to (and may still) accept reservations. If possible, ask for a more private spot and shoot for on the water.

Diamond Lake is a very nice spot. I try to get there as often as possible (7 -8 times a year.) It will make a nice base camp for visits to Crater Lake. Word of warning - Mosquitos.
