My family (husband, 4 year old daughter, and I) will be spending one afternoon (noon to 10:00 am) @ the Country Inn %26amp; Suites by the airport this Feb. on our way to Maui. We won%26#39;t be renting a car, so we%26#39;d like to find something to do within 5-10 miles of the hotel. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Maui VIA Portland
You%26#39;ll be close to the MAX (lightrail) line that takes you into downtown Portland, so you%26#39;ve got all kinds of options. But there%26#39;s not much of anything close to the airport.
Nampa, ID...... sigh.... I spent some grade school and my junior high school years there. Great place to grow up.
Maui VIA Portland
It%26#39;s in a pretty industrial area so you might have a difficult time with walking around. You may want to stay near the MAX line, like at the Embassy suites, Hampton Inn or Sheraton but again, I%26#39;m not sure what it would be like to walk to the MAX train on Mt. Hood Ave. You could always take the Max train up to the Oregon Zoo or the Children%26#39;s Museum right next to the Zoo. The MAX train also goes into the heart of the city, Pioneer Courthouse Square. If you decide to stay at the Country Inn %26amp; Suites, there is a bus stops nearby. If you find yourself out when it%26#39;s dark, I would suggest taking a cab back to your accommodations. OMSI is also fun for a 4 year old. They have a room upstairs where they have lots of hands on activities for kids 6 and under called the science playground. You%26#39;ll need to take the bus. Check the trimet.org trip planner. Or you could just hang out in the swimming pool and eat at the hotel.
Best wishes for a wonderful trip to Maui.
Agree with Mistletoe and Julauf check out the Max. 4 year old might get kick riding a train. Short trip downtown. Feb could be chilly for zoo but childrens museum would be ok. OMSI would take a little work to figure how to get there. good place for a kid, but so is museum and easier to get to. Just stay on MAX line from airport and get off at zoo terminal underground.
You need to be careful going back to airport to get on right MAX. It is the red line. If you get on it at zoo you will get a seat. from downtown it may not be as easy if it is rush hour.
We have used the red line for some of flights. Puts you right in terminal
Enjoy Maui. we booked for oct this week
