can anyone tell me the newest hotel in salem? We would prefer a place with a kitchen etc...considering the residence inn...thoughts???
newest hotel in salem
There are a bunch of new (er) motels on Hawthorne Ave, which paralells I-5. I normally stay at the Mill Creek Inn, but they do not have kitchens. I%26#39;ve not stayed at that particular Residence, but I have stayed w/ them b4. They%26#39;re not bad.

Residence Inn looks nice. Never stayed there so I can%26#39;t be helpful there but it is newer and in a nicer area. Hawthorne can be a busy road but nothing like Commercial, Market St., Mission, etc. You will be right down the street from Costco and Denny%26#39;s. We always drive down Hawthorne to avoid the heavy traffic on Lancaster. Like Den said, the Mill Creek Inn is also a nice place but no kitchen. Its in the same general area. If you need help finding places for shopping just give us a jingle on-line.
I think the Crossland in NE Salem is fairly new. It%26#39;s right off I-5 and is an ';extended stay'; type of hotel so it should have kitchens. It%26#39;s near the Lancaster Dr ';strip'; so there are many stores, etc.
The newest hotel is probably the Phoenix at the conference center downtown. But I don%26#39;t think they have kitchens.
The Residence Inn is fairly new and in an ';okay'; spot to stay. Close to restaurants, movie theaters and a mall. Also, it%26#39;s in a heavy business district.
DO NOT stay at Crosslands. There is always a drug bust or prostitute thing going down there.
The previous poster is right, the Phoenix at the Conference Center is the newest, although the Residence Inn was built within the last 5 years. If you want a kitchen, I believe that is the only hotel with one in Salem.
The Mill Creek Inn is usually where I refer family and friends when they come and stay, but there are no kitchens. The South Salem Phoenix Inn is nice as well, but no kitchens.
Let me know if you need anything else. Salem is were I live!
littlelisa, thanks for the tip about Crosslands! I had only seen it when we were in town, and usually that%26#39;s an OK chain. (My mom lives in Salem so we don%26#39;t have a need for rooms with kitchens.)
We almost always stay at the Comfort Suites, not far from the Mill Creek Inn. Rates are a little lower, rooms are nice, and the breakfast bar (full line of offerings including cooked items) is very good. My kids like their pool, too!
I normally stay at Mill Creek b/c it offers government rate and MOST of my trips are for business. I also like that instead of the typical continental breakfast, they offer a ';chit'; for the Denny%26#39;s across the parking lot.
That being said, the Mill Creek is not the best motel, just one of several good choices in the same general area. I will be staying at the Super 8 this weekend b/c they allow pets for a $10 fee. The Residence Inn charges a $100 non-refundable pet deposit. Just Marriot%26#39;s way of say ';sure we allow pets'; :-(

I am also looking for an inexpensive but nicer place with kitchens in Salem (close to the fairgrounds).
I agree about Crossland - we used to stay there, but last year we noticed it was attracting too many low income people hanging out - I did not feel safe with my teenage daughters there.
I noticed driving up the highway (a month ago) that something new was being built behind the crossland. Does anyone know whether or not it is a hotel? - and if it is open?
Wow! thanks for all the responses! We are coming to see my grandma..she lives in some apartments on Fairview Ave. SE
Would the residence inn be pretty close or should we stay somewhere else??? thanks!
The Residence Inn (Hawthorne Ave) is in SE Salem.
The Residence Inn is about as close as you will get to Fairview SE and have a kitchen. The Phoenix Inn Suite on Commercial might be a little closer but they only have a small frig and microwave.
