Just read a little article in new AARP Magazine about the World Forestry Center--they list it as a %26#39;must see%26#39; museum. Haven%26#39;t been there in years--sounds like they have added some neat new hi-tech stuff. Do you think my 12 and 14 yr old grandkids would enjoy it?
World Forestry Center
Oh yes! a great museum and right across from the Zoo. Easy to get to by train. We were there on our first visit to Portland , almost 2 years ago..that was when they had the Chocolate exhibition..
Yes, I think the kids would like it.
Did you look at their site?

World Forestry Center
I spent my work life with Forest Service, engineer not a forester. I have never taken my kids or grandkids there, but guess that is because they touch so lightly on forestry I knew.
Then maybe they have improved, and could be good learning for kid with limited exp with forests
When I wanted to teach my kids about the Forests that%26#39;s where we took them, to the woods.
I recently visited the center with my husband and 16 yr old daughter and we were very impressed with the quality of the displays. Most were quite interactive and very well suited for older elementary kids. We went in order to view the Ansell Adams exhibit but enjoyed much of the rest of the museum. A highlight for us was the logger - you sit in a seat and run the controls and ';cut down'; a tree and move it - using video displays. We all gave it a try and loved it!
Thanks all--The grandkids were here today and checked out the website and thought it looked like a fun place to visit (especially if we could also go to the Lloyd Center or Washington Square). You%26#39;ve got to know that Longview is pretty pathetic when it comes to shopping and entertainment.
Not to worry phirl--they have been to plenty of real forests. They%26#39;ve done lots of hiking, camping and trail riding. A trip to the Forestry Museum will be more like a trip to an amusement park.
Sounding better, my take our grandsons there
Phirl you would LOVE the simulator - you will be knockin%26#39; all those kiddies outta the way so you can try your hand at logging. There is a full size logger machine thingy and cool displays that compare different types of hardwoods and stuff, show information on building materials. All very interesting and quite well done.
well that is all good to hear. Our grandsons here, we may go.
I went a few years ago, . probably on work, and thought not something worth taking kids to. but this is not what was there then.
