Pirates Cove Restaurant - Garibaldi

Has anyone eaten here?

What do you think?

I had lunch there once, but never

dinner. The view during the day

was great. Wondering if it is worth

it at night?

Pirates Cove Restaurant - Garibaldi

We also had lunch and enjoyed the views very much. The seafood was good, nothing to rave about. If you%26#39;re looking for a really great place for dinner, you may want to consider the Nehalem River Inn. The food here is amazing and the service is friendly also. :)

When was that, syrahgirl? The last few times I%26#39;ve been by there, Pirates Cove has looked pretty tired, and badly in need of a remodel. And the last time I ate there - maybe 2.5 years ago - I thought the food was just average, and way over-priced. View is nice though!

Where will you be staying the night you%26#39;re thinking about dinner there?

We need to start mentioning , in our replies to people on these forusm, When one has eaten in a place or stayed in a hotel. . or just qualify our answers a little.. Lately there have been recommendations posted for places that have been closed for a year or so, it tends to mislead visitors...

Just a thought :)

Good to hear your opinions.

It%26#39;s been several years since I was there.

We%26#39;ll be staying at the Old Wheeler Hotel that

night and I was trying to think of some place not too

far away. The Nehalem Inn sounds good.

What are the prices like? I%26#39;ve stayed in Nehalem before

at a private residence, but never noticed the inn.

Where%26#39;s it at?

Never been there, appears nice enough. One poster said it was nice but have no idea when she ate there.

The website www.portlandfood.org has some discussion about Nehalem River Inn, from people who have been often. Hopefully that can help you decide if it is what you are looking for.

tadsfam,

LOL!! Last time I was in Pirates Cove was dinner b4 my high school prom. That was 1975!! (It%26#39;s changed hands several times since then!!)

The Nehalem River Inn is on Hwy 53 in Mohler. Just past the Mohler Co-op and across the river. Used to be McLeods Tavern %26#39;back in the day';.

Den-

Too funny! It%26#39;s kind of misleading what you read about

online in some of these little travel blogs. I was just reading

the other day about some folks who were traveling along the

coast and they couldn%26#39;t afford Pirates Cove, and that is what

reminded me of the place. I think we%26#39;ll pass on the old one.

That is why I really love this board.

I used it last year while researching my trip to Hawaii and now

I faithfully check it when I know I will be going somewhere else.

Lots of good information and good people like all of you!

Thanks so much!

Le us know where you end up! We have enjoyed a couple of great meals at NRI. Our meal last summer in July was even better than the time before, it%26#39;s a place that seems to improve and keeps getting better and better! You can dine in the cozy little dining room (we had the same table by the window each time which was nice) or there is a small outdoor patio area which is nice when the weather is warm. Ryan (chef and owner) will come out to the tables to make sure you are enjoying everything.

The lobster bisque is very good as are the salads and the sea scallops. Save room for their housemade desserts, they are excellent, enough for the 2 of us to share. We also like to share appetizers and the salads. There is a small corkage fee, we like to bring in our own wine that we have picked up on our wine country adventures in the area. Enjoy!

I do recommend that you read www.portlandfood.org

There was a thread in the Elsewhere colum about Nehalem River Inn and various other restaurants in the area.

I have a some friends who told me about sitting ater dinner and having a great chat with the owner and his wife,

* remember, no matter where you go, if you misbehave, the word will get out * lol
