Traveling from Michigan to Oregon

What do we want to see and do while in Oregon? We will bring our motorcycle for some good riding.

Would like to see the coast and the Red woods and waterfalls, a little big of everything.

I really wanted to do some whale watching but I guess its the wrong time. We will be there the end of July until August sometime. Maybe about 7 days.

What is your route to eastern Oregon? What%26#39;s your schedule? It%26#39;s a big and geographically diverse state, so your answers will help guide the answers. Also, the days are quite long, so you might have time to see a lot. But you don%26#39;t say how long you will have to see the sights.

If you want to see waterfalls, you might want to ride through the Columbia Gorge on the old highway. The Gorge has a lot of beautiful scenery and waterfalls.

As far as whales, you might want to try a whale sightseeing tours out of Depoe Bay-it seems like I read somewhere that they have one or more resident whales year-round. Maybe one of the forum%26#39;s local experts knows about this??? You may be able to see other sea life though-sea lions or seals can be seen at various places along the coast.

Maybe see some state parks or Crater Lake.

The best Redwoods are across the California state line around Cresent City area-about 1 1/2-2 hours from Grants Pass (which is in Oregon). The Redwood Highway that connects the two is a beautiful drive closer to Crescent City-through a canyon above the river and goes through the Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. Lots of beautiful redwoods in that area.

There is a pod of resident whales that summer in Oregon so they%26#39;ll be there when you are. We%26#39;ve seen them from Cape Perpetua Scenic Area just south of Yachats to Depoe Bay. You should check www.whalespoken.org

Thank You all for the ideas...

We have all the time in the world to see the sites. We will be traveling to Pahrump Nevada after we visit Oregon cutting down through California to get there. We will be staying mainly in Eugene while in Oregon. Would also like to see sandcastle building contest and the big kite flying and also the covered bridges. Just a little bit of everything.

Thank You for your help.

What about seeing McKenzie Pass area just east of Eugene in the Cascade Mountains? That would be a good day trip from Eugene to go up McKenzie Pass(Hwy 242) and then back down Hwy 20/126...

Its very picturesque and curvy. Dont know if that makes for good cycle riding.

Yes, if you go east on the McKenzie River Hwy, you can see some smaller waterfalls along the McKenzie, Koosah and Sahalie Falls. Stop at Belknap Hot Springs and there is a short hike across the river to a secret or semi-secret garden. If you travel to Crater Lake, you must drive along the Umpqua River Highway strictly for the scenery and a stop at Toketee Falls (I always recommend this if you have a lot of time in the state). If you want to head out east of Salem, you will find Silver Falls. There are waterfalls you can walk under and lots of hiking trails.

Of course the Columbia Gorge was mentioned and you can%26#39;t miss that if you want to see some great waterfalls.

Thank You for all the good ideas. We are excited and cant wait to visit Oregon.
