Would appreciate comments on the following:
2 days Newport
2 days Florence
2 days bandon
1 day Brookings
will then continue for a 4 night stay in Portland
New Yorkers who love the west coast.
central and southern coast itinarary
What time of year booklover? And any specific reason you chose these towns, or is it just that they%26#39;re close to equi-distant from eachother?
central and southern coast itinarary
Do you have specific things you would like to do or see, or as mistletoe pointed out, did you select them based on looking at a map? B4 I could really comment, other than to say they are all very nice towns, it would be helpful to know what you are expecting.

No matter what you are interested, you should be able to find plenty to do for the amount of time you have on your iteneary so far. Glad you are spending awhile at the beach-some people only spend 3 days on the coast-which is way to short of time to appricieate the beach.
All of the places you have listed are nice areas of the Oregon Coast. You may also want to add Lincoln City to your list. Where are you staying in these areas, where in Portland, what else are you wanting to know about? :)
If there is anything else you want to know, the locals will help you and give you current,up to date and pertinent info. The above poster is from FRESNO California, ever been there?
We are seniors, not in the best of physical ability. We are into mild hikes(walks), picnics, scenary, historical societies, museums, and taking life easy.
We will be in Oregon the first two weeks of June and then going up to Vancouver.
Our choices are based on not driving too much each day and trying to pick places that were a little different from each other.
We did the North Coast a few years ago.
Still haven%26#39;t found a place in Brookings.
Staying in a lot of Shilo and LaQuinta hotels.(not booked yet)
Any suggestions?
Really appreciate any ideas!!! Thanks!
... and when ready for WA state and Vancouver, BC, given what you have said, look forward to helping you. Depending on your trip length and interests, consider also Victoria, BC.
By two days assume you mean two nights.
Of the 4 towns you mentioned Newport has most to do. Though if you want to try dune buggies Florence might be good day.
If you are driving up coast not sure why you don%26#39;t just keep moving.
THings you might be interested in...
Newport- Oregon Coast Aquarium
Florence-go on a dune buggie ride with a driver-might be a good way to see alot of ground without having to walk.
Bandon- Lots of shops-can%26#39;t miss the Cranberry Sweets store- yum. Between Florence %26amp; Bandon- might want to stop at Shore Acres State Park- kind of off the main road but a nice formal garden right on the ocean.
Brookings-there is a Best Western right on the beach. I%26#39;ve stayed there about 2 years ago and is your standard motel room. There are two BW in Brookings so make sure it is the one on the beach and not on hwy 101 if you are interested. Ive also stayed at The one on hwy 101 if fine too-but its older.
One of my favorite hikes on the Oregon coast is one out Cascade Head. It%26#39;s north of Lincoln City a few miles, but worth the drive if you%26#39;re planning time north of Newport. It%26#39;s good to give yourselves time for the southern coast. There are more roadside parks and viewpoints than you can count, each promising more beautiful views than the previous. Still, like phirl, I%26#39;m not sure why you don%26#39;t just keep moving.
You may already be thinking this, but from Brookings back to Portland, I%26#39;d suggest continuing south on 101 to Crescent City, then hwy 199 up to I-5. This route take you through a couple redwood groves, and along the beautiful Smith River.
If you%26#39;ve not seen it, take a detour up to Crater Lake. The rim road may not be completely open, but you would certainly be able to get up to Rim Village, and likely around the west side of the lake to the north entrance/exit.
You%26#39;d also probably enjoy seeing a play at Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland.
If you can%26#39;t make your itinerary work, I%26#39;d suggest cutting back a night in Portland. You%26#39;ll want time here to see the Columbia River Gorge, Mt. Hood, and some of our gardens, but that%26#39;s a couple days tops.
