mazama village

Planning a trip to Crater Lake. Advised to stay at the Lodge, but it%26#39;s full. We have reservations at Mazama Village, but not sure it%26#39;s what we want. Any first hand tips?

I stayed at the campground at Mazama, and the motel itself didn%26#39;t look that fancy. Still, the location is good (though you won%26#39;t be able to see the lake from there) and you can drive to the lodge for meals.

Hi! I haven%26#39;t been in the Mazama Village rooms in a few years, but when I was last, they were fine. I used to work at Crater Lake. The Mazama Village rooms aren%26#39;t as nice the Lodge, obviously, but are fine-kind of a rustic feel. Not a lot of frills, but I liked them. So unless they%26#39;ve changed a lot in 7 years (which I doubt), they%26#39;re probably still fine.

They are in the same area as the campground, so you would be quite close for the evening programs at the amphitheater. And the campground backs on a very pretty canyon called Annie Creek Canyon, which has a nice hiking trail. Personally, I would stay in Mazama Village over a place outside the park so as to not have to drive back and forth in and out of the park and to have more of the out-in-nature feel.

Of course, you can always check the day that you arrive and see if the Lodge has had any cancellations-they do occasionally, so you may possibly be able to get a Lodge room that way.

This is a the website of the Mavama Village ';cabins'; -the pictures at th etop are how the buildings and rooms look, at least as well as I remember.

Best wishes in your trip planning-Crater Lake is beautiful and the whole park is great-I still love exploring it.

We spent a night at Mazama Village Motor Inn in the summer of 2005. ';Cabins'; are clean and all, but don%26#39;t expect luxuries. Very spartan. Still, diekmanj%26#39;s advice is probably right; better Mazama Village than elsewhere outside the park. Depending on your itinerary, though, you might consider the Prospect Hotel, 25 miles SW of the lake. http://www.prospecthotel.com/

To support comments preceding, stay anywhere, but see all of the park.

We stayed at the Mazama cabins last year and had a great time. As posted they are comfortable but spartan. The queen bed was comfortable but nearly filled the room, the bath was fiberglass tub/shower, small sink counter. Wonderful setting, we stayed I believe it was the 2nd night they were open for the season and there was still snow piled high everywhere. Although the drive around the lake was only partial;y open we still had a great time. Had dinner in the lodge, drinks on the balcony overlooking the lake, some hiking on the rim drive. Great fun, would much rather stay at the cabins for a night or two then drive back and forth.

How about the rest of your trip latteda, will you be going to ashland for some plays, or along the columbia gorge, the beautiful coast. It is a great state for sightseeing, post what time of year and where you want to go and you will receive wonderful suggestions from locals online. Have a great time.
