I was excited to see this... for all you TA%26#39;ers in PDX: Deschutes Brewery to open Portland pub (www.bendbulletin.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article鈥?/a>)
It%26#39;s no Lucky Lab... but it%26#39;ll do! ;)
Get ready for some real beer, Portlanders!
That is exciting! Thanks for the heads up:)
Get ready for some real beer, Portlanders!
Deschutes make Black Butte Porter, don%26#39;t they?? Love it!!! And it looks like they%26#39;ll be in your neighborhood, Scarlett.
But you,re not implying that we don%26#39;t already have good beer here, are ya%26#39; fiveforefun?? ;-)
Oh no... there is good beer in Portland too! But I am partial to my neighborhood brewer. I work down the road from the Deshutes building and on a good day it smells like bread outside... mmm...
Yes, they make BBP. That%26#39;s one of my favorite brews too. They also make ';HOPTRIP'; (limited) which is also great.
I%26#39;ll be anxious to see where in the Pearl the new Deschutes goes...believe me I%26#39;ll be there, especially if they have some of the fine draughts they only make for their pub in downtown Bend.
By the way, has anyone else but me tried their latest limited-release, The Abyss? A phenomenally rich, deep dark imperial stout. Grab some if you can find it!
Cheers,
Brian
I will look for The Abyss... I love beer that requires a knife and fork to enjoy! ;)
McMenamin%26#39;s Dry Irish Stout and Bend Brewery%26#39;s Coconut Cream Stout are both very good... how does Abyss compare?
I wonder if it will be down where the huge buildings are going up by the Bridgeport Brewery...but then, Whole Foods is going in down there too, this place is growing faster than any town I have lived in!
Mmmmm. I like stout :)
fiveforfun et al:
I%26#39;ve not had either the McMenamins or BB stouts so I can%26#39;t compare...what I can tell you is The Abyss is a Russian Imperial Stout, 11% alcohol by volume. Huge aroma and flavor of chocolate, roasted coffee, molasses and vanilla from the oak barrels it was aged in. Smoother than smooth, it%26#39;s a beer that deserves to be drank from a snifter, not a pint glass.
It WAS available at Whole Foods in the Pearl District but is completely sold out...but still available (as of Monday) at Bridgeport Village%26#39;s Whole Foods. Not for every beer drinker, but if you like deep, dark, rich stouts it%26#39;s a must. A bargain, too, at $6 for a 22 oz. bottle.
According to Deschutes%26#39; website it%26#39;s on tap at the Bond St. Pub in Bend...
...ok, now I%26#39;m sounding like I%26#39;m reviewing on Beer Advocate (which I do regularly). :-)
Um, ok...my ';advice'; is to ';travel'; down (or up) I-5 to Bridgeport Village in Tigard and buy some awesome beer...how%26#39;s that for making this thread TA-worthy!!! ;-)
Cheers,
B
Brian--I live about 10 minutes from Bridgeport. Somehow I think if my husband had any idea what was there, he would be pleading with me to go, lol!
Hi Brian!
I should make Mtngrl bring me a bottle when we got to lunch next week :)
An update from the Deschutes Website:
The new pub location will be located at 210 NW 11th Avenue, in the heart of the Pearl District, across from the historic Portland A[r]mory Building. A target opening date has been set for October, 2007 to bring the same feel, aesthetic, and experimentation it has become famous for to its new Portland location.
Hopefully that is meaningful info to you Portlanders. :) I find everything there by accident... including Powell%26#39;s books where I am a regular visitor!
