My husband, 4 year old daughter, and I will be staying @ the Country Inns %26amp;amp; Suites by the airport on our way to Maui in Feb. We%26#39;ll be flying in about noon and flying out the next day around 10:00 AM. We don%26#39;t plan on renting a car. Don%26#39;t mind calling a taxi but would like to stay fairly close to our hotel. Any suggestions nearby? Thanks!! :~)))
One Afternoon in Feb.
If you have from noon on in Portland on the day of arrival, consider taking MAX (fast train transit) into the city on the day you arrive and spend some time downtown. The MAX is fairly inexpensive and and the best way to get from airport hotels to downtown and back again.
Downtown Portland, The Pearl and Northwest District are wonderful places to walk, eat, see a film, and shop.
If you want more info let us know.
One Afternoon in Feb.
As was already stated, take the MAX into the city. The ride is fairly short (30 minutes), and is direct and fairly cheap.
Being that you have your daughter with you, some options for kids would be a good idea. The MAX (our light rail) has a stop in Washington Park. Within the park are the Portland Zoo, and the Children%26#39;s Museum, both of which should interest your duaghter and allow her to expend some energy after doing all of that flying and waiting around in airports.
Also, the children%26#39;s museum, being indoors, could be done regardless of weather.
After you arrive in town , you could have breakfast at Mothers then take your little girl to OMSI ... http://www.omsi.edu/visit/
Great fun for all and indoors ( odds are there will be rain )
As mentioned, you can take the Streetcar on a loop all through Portland so you can just hop off wherever you like and get back on, tickets are good for 2 hours. There is also a Fareless Square where you do not have to buy a ticket.

Lunch might be fun at Henrys Tavern in the Pearl, around the corner from Powells Books, where your daughter might also love the childrens reading room.
or you hop back on the streetcar and go to NW23rd where you can have lunch at Miso Happy and walk and browse the shops there..you will no doubt find toys and clothes that will be Needed!! for a 4 year old lol and something for yourselves.
Chocolates at Moonstruck and hop back on the streetcar ..
If dinner ideas are needed,
Red Star in the 5th Ave Suites is good and has a nice kids menu.
Henrys Tavern
Typhoon on Broadway - Thai
Everett St Bistro
I don%26#39;t want to overwhelm with suggestions so I hope this helps..
Great suggestions already. If it is not too cold, hit Mio Gelato, across from Powells.
Lucero has good advice about the Washington Park area, a 4 year old would love the Portland Zoo. It is a very nice attraction with some great exhibits, she should enjoy her time her very much. You could make an entire afternoon if it, taking in the Bird Show and enjoying the animals and attractions here.
Pioneer Place in downtown Portland is a very nice, multi-level shopping mall that we have enjoyed for years. You will find several of the usual food court places here to fuel up after shopping. Stop by the See%26#39;s candy shop for some treats, or if you do decide on the Nob Hill (Northwest) area Moonstruck as previously mentioned is good for chocolates and milkshakes. There is also Escape From New York for pizza or go across the street to Papa Haydn%26#39;s for more yummy sweet desserts. You may also enjoy a meal here, as they serve food as well. Enjoy and please report back after your trip! Aloha! :)
Lucero Does have good advice, so do other Portlanders here.
As a visitor, syrahgirl, you must take some of our advice and try some new places too. Since your last visit so many places have opened. I believe Sees has moved.
Pioneer Place is a mall..I am sure they have those in Idaho. Portland has so much that is unique and charming, a mall would not be my first suggestion.
