Great new sushi restaurant

I have waited years for Portland to get a sushi restaurant of this quality. We%26#39;ve already been there twice, and everything was so good. Lots of interesting appetizers and amazing quality fish. We just dined there tonight, and wanted to spread the news...

my daughter loves sashimi so we like REAL fresh. will try it ASAP!

We tried out this new sushi restaurant too and it was fantastic! Finally Portland has a restaurant serving top notch sushi and sashimi. Try the Amaebi and Salmon dish. It was amazing! It just opened in December and we%26#39;ve been there four times already! It%26#39;s near the Jamison Park on 10th Avenue right before Lovejoy.

They are open I think from 11:30-2pm for lunch. Closed Mondays though! We went walked by on a Monday and were so bummed!

Did anyone notice that there were no Japanese wait staff?

There are two servers there, and both of them are caucasian, though they seem quite knowledgeable. The hostess is japanese. Hiro (the sushi chef) is there every night with his wife who is the manager, and there are also two other japanese sushi chefs alongside Hiro.

I highly recommend sitting at the sushi bar so you can talk to Hiro personally, and he can recommend the fresh specials, and you can witness his amazing knive skills. Last time I was there, the toro was fantastic, the seared toro was unbelievable and the monkfish liver was out of this world. Not cheap, but worth the price if you appreciate excellent sushi and sashimi.

I read in their initial announcement of opening that they would have no Japanese servers.

I wanted a friend to go with me but she said sushi makes her squeamish LOL so I will make my husband take me for dinner.

*squeamish is just so perfect a description for people who don%26#39;t like raw things to eat lol..she cracks me up...although my reluctance to eat brains etc might crack someone else up :(

LOL...its ok, you can say it...that is me! I just don%26#39;t do sushi. DH and DS love it though...but I just cannot handle it at all. :)
