*I am a self confessed ';Sonic-aholic';.... and with the pending opening of Sonic America%26#39;s Drive-In in Hillsboro, I am looking for fun and exciting things to do around the area.
We have 4 kids ranging in ages from 5 to 13. All outdoor lovers, sports fanatics, theme park maniacs, thrift shop browsing, fun loving kids.
Thanks!
*In and Around Hillsboro OR* ?fun things to do with kids?
We are talking about the same Hillsboro..... Oregon, right? I think you might have better luck finding a 10-step program to help with your addiction than ';fun and exciting things to do'; in Hillsboro. I used to live out there, and still have reason to ';visit'; once a week or so, but can%26#39;t come up with anything that wouldn%26#39;t mean going into Portland. Would Malibu Grand Prix in Beaverton work? Regardless, I guess I should stop by Sonic to see what the fuss is about, huh?

Nothing? I thought for sure with all the Pacific Northwest has to offer in most areas, that Hillsboro would have at least something to offer.
I%26#39;ve done a little web searching, but I%26#39;m not coming up with a whole lot. So maybe we need to look to Portland for our fun and adventure. I did see that the zoo was not too far.
Anyone? Ideas? Easy trip activies around Hillsboro or surrounding areas?
Go to the coast
When are you coming? Isn%26#39;t there a corn maze out there somewhere off of Hwy 26 near Manning? Jim Dandy Farm?
Sauvie Island has a corn maze and the children can pick out their own pumpkins. And it is so pretty out there.
I don%26#39;t know directions at all Kairbear, but the Zoo has an exit off of 26 ..it should be easy to get to for you and I know the kids will like it.

Thanks for the tips. Corn mazes are typically pretty cool for the kids. Any idea on how long it will be open?
We%26#39;ll probably be in the area once every month or so after the Sonic opens. We may incorporate some weekend trips out to the coast. But for the most part, we will be making day trips.
Here%26#39;s the website for the Sauvie Island maze
http://www.thepumpkinpatch.com/
I just learned of something fun in Hillsboro yesterday. Our neighbors gathered up a bunch of the kids on the street and took them to Roloff Farm there. The website is www.mattroloff.com. It is a pumpkin patch, but has a lot of other fun things for the kids. These were teens that went and they had a blast. A treehouse, castle, and pirate ship were things the kids mentioned. Not sure if they have anything else other times of the year as I didn%26#39;t look at the website too much.
There%26#39;s a corn maze off of Highway 26 at the North Plains exit...just head north and follow the signs.
As for fun things to do in Hillsboro?...well, technically, I don%26#39;t consider the location of that Sonic in Hillsboro, I like to call it Orenco (which is where I live). Good luck hitting up a corn maze though....that Sonic isn%26#39;t opening up any time soon!!
For a fun time, you should take your kids disc golfing. There%26#39;s a disc golf course about 3 blocks from the new Sonic burger...a good way to work off a couple of those greasy calories! (Just head east on Amberglen Parkway--{Butler turns into Amberglen on the other side of Cornelius Pass....Sonic is on Butler) and it%26#39;ll be on your right (at Orchard Park...before the townhouses and stop light).
Other than that, ummm....?
~~There%26#39;s some nice parks to walk around...ask if you want directions
~~There%26#39;s a wicked skate park up Cornelius Pass road (just head south from Sonic, it%26#39;ll be on your right past the Albertson%26#39;s and the school) if your kids are into that.
~~There%26#39;s a nice bowling alley up on TV Highway across from the movie theater and behind Goodwill (take Cornelius Pass south to TV Highway, turn right and go for a couple of miles).
~~You can spend awhile at The Streets of Tanasbourne (a couple miles west down Cornell from Sonic) which is an outdoor/upscale mall.
~~I wouldn%26#39;t worry much about heading west from Sonic unless you want to go to the beach...which is only about an hour and a half away.
~~The zoo is right off of Highway 26 headed west, only about 10-15 minute drive from Sonic....the World Forestry Center is located there as well as the Children%26#39;s Museum (fun scientific stuff for children). The Hoyt Arboretum is a little ways up the road from the Zoo and features miles of hiking trails...the Rose Garden and Japanese Garden are also up towards the zoo...but I don%26#39;t know if your children would be into that (though the Rose Garden does have a huge playground).
Don%26#39;t know of much else...we usually leave town to have fun :)
There%26#39;s a roller skating rink, great theaters, and if there%26#39;s not lazer or paint ball places, Beaverton next door has that.
That suburb is surrounded by other%26#39;s with various things to do.
The beach is only about sixty minutes from the NW edge of Hillsboro.
