My wife (who is a golfer) and I are planning to go on a golfing vacation in 2007 but it won%26#39;t be until late Oct or early Nov. How is the weather at this time of year? Is it too chancy to come? Even though I would golf in most anything, my wife is more of a ';fair weather'; golfer.
We have about one week to take coming from Atlanta. We obviously don%26#39;t have to golf every day so if a couple of days are bad we can forego the golf for sightseeing, driving about, etc., and golf on the good days.
Any spas in the area?
TIA,
Ed
Bandon Dunes Golf in Oct/NovWeather philosophy at the Oregon coast in Oct/Nov...dont expect sun or nice weather so if it happens to be sunny its a bonus!!!
Late October is defintely pushing it for nice weather(i.e. sun or partly cloudy) on the coast. September is the last month that is more reliable for fair weather. But that said-weather could be sunny and 60 degrees in Oct/Nov or 45 degrees and 3inches a day of sideways rain(but most likely not 3inches of rain for an entire week!).
Don%26#39;t know if there are any spas in the area-its pretty rural area, but there might be one somewhere-just don%26#39;t expect a big selection.
It%26#39;s a beautiful area to visit-there are many sight see-ing things to do if the weather is bad for golfing. On my list of things to see would be- Shore Acres St Park, drive Hwy 101 from Port Orford/Gold Beach/Brookings, Oregon Dunes, etc.
If you decide to come, let us know what you like to do and we can give you more details.
Bandon Dunes Golf in Oct/NovEd,
I%26#39;ve been going to Bandon the first week in November for five (six?) years now, and up until this year, only had one round rained out. This year we had the 45 temps, 45 mph winds, and rain at a 45 degree angle on two of three days. Can%26#39;t believe that some folks tee it up in that stuff, but they do. I%26#39;ve never seen it when course conditions make it unplayable.
By contrast, on the day we played Bandon Trails last year, one of the caddies remarked that it was the nicest day he%26#39;d seen on the course the entire year - and that again was early November.
So, as chinookgrrrrl says, it%26#39;s a crap shoot. The problem with your plan is that, even in November, it%26#39;s likely that all three courses will be booked solid. So, I%26#39;d advise making tee times for every day you think you might want to play. You%26#39;ll have to pay the greens fee whether you play or not, but if weather%26#39;s bad, you can get a rain check (provided you don%26#39;t tee off on one). Rain checks don%26#39;t expire, and can even be used the next day.
Another regular poster here, Mtngrl, has heard they%26#39;re planning a spa. But I didn%26#39;t see any signs of it, and didn%26#39;t think to ask.
I might be a little biased as a native, but I think you%26#39;ll find that Bandon Dunes will live up to everything you%26#39;ve heard, seen, and read about it; it is truly a great golf experience. So don%26#39;t let the threat or risk of some bad weather scare you away.
On your day for sightseeing, driving, etc. you may want to consider the Salishan Lodge %26amp; Spa for your spa treatments. It is about a 3 hour drive, tho. You could leave in the am one day, have lunch at the Lodge (it%26#39;s nice there with good food) and book a treatment after lunch. I did not have a spa treatment there, but did get a tour and the facility is absolutely gorgeous. An early dinner would get you home around 9:00. A very nice day trip. Some people don%26#39;t like to drive that much in one day, but we do it all the time if the destination is worth it. Oh, it is in Gleneden Beach.
Happy New Year and enjoy the Oregon Coast! :)
With all there is to see and do - Oregon Dunes, Haceta Head, Cape Perpetua, Yachats, Oregon Aquarium, Newport, Depot Bay, etc...... - my guess is that if you set out on a drive north from Bandon Dunes, you%26#39;ll never get as far as Salishan, 3+ hours away. But that shouldn%26#39;t stop you from trying! ;-) If you do make that drive, take your sticks; the track at Salishan%26#39;s not bad.
