In one of the Oregon guidebooks, I read that on the Historic Columbia River Highway you can turn off Larch Mountain Road which will take you to Sherrard Point where you can see views of mounts Adam, Hood, Jefferson, Ranier %26amp; St Helens. I%26#39;d love to see this! Has anyone done this? Is it hard to find or are there signs to follow? It also mentioned that a short hike is involved. I have a 4yr old daughter who%26#39;s been on hikes before (not more that 1.5 miles) on fairly level walkway. Would she be able to do the hike?
Thanks :)
Sherrard Point
I have never been to Sherrards Point, Other places you can see those mountains, in Central Oregon. which are not handy for you.
You get good views of Jeff coming up I-5, Adams can be seen in Gorge if you know where to go. One place is Hood Riv Valley. Mt St Helens visible from downtown Portland and other places.
If you plan to loop back over Mt Hood to PDX, you can see Jeff and Adams along way, though not same place.
Rainier a bit trickier. But it can be seen from Portland if in right place. Maybe someone else remembers right place. We can see it from our neighborhood, but surely not enough to come to Tigard.
There is a mountain view pull-off on road from Tillamook to PDX, I know you see Mt StH, can%26#39;t remember if you also can see Rainier.
Sherrard Point
Larch Mt Road is well marked from the Historic Hwy. I have never been up there and now you%26#39;ve got me wanting to go up there. I wish I could help more on this. I do use bribery to get our 4 and 6 year olds up hills when we hike the waterfalls along the gorge though. We have gotten them to do some serious elevations with the promise of juice or ice cream.
You know, I get such great advice from these forums that when I%26#39;m researching a trip, it%26#39;s the first place I go to. I sometimes forget that there%26#39;s this thing out there called the internet!
I looked it up and found out that there is a Sherrard Point Trail. It%26#39;s 1/2 mile roundtrip and the trail is paved with a set of steps that lead to the summit. On a clear day, you can see panoramic views of the Cascade Mountain range. I%26#39;m hoping the day we go is clear as I%26#39;d love to see this.

phirl - Is this pull off on the 6? I believe that%26#39;s the hwy we%26#39;re taking from Tillamook to Portland. Is there a sign or would you happen to remember where on the hwy it is?
Julauf - All it takes for my daughter to hike is a stick with the promise of finding more sticks along the way. She does pretty well. After about a mile, I have to use the ice cream bribe :)
(Sorry for the double post - I hit Submit button too quickly).
As I recall pull-off a bit east of Wilson River Summit.
