golf help, please

We will lbe in Oregon the middle of July for about a week. My husband is an avid golfer. Any suggestions for a round of golf for him? I apologize for my screen name - we just got back from Hawaii and I don%26#39;t know how to change it!!!

Where are you going to be, kauaidreamin? Best public play course in the Portland area IMO is Pumpkin Ridge, 25 miles west of the city in North Plains. They%26#39;ve held a couple US Women%26#39;s Opens, and Tiger won one of his US Amateur titles there. The Reserve, 15 miles west in Aloha, would also be good. That course has hosted one of the major Senior Tour events the last several years.

If you%26#39;re planning any time on the central/south coast, he would absolutely want to play at Bandon Dunes. Three courses there. If he only has time (and $$$) for one round, I suggest it be at Pacific Dunes. Bandon Dunes is rated as one of the top five golf destinations in the world.

Thanx for the info. I think we will be in Yachats and then towards Portland/Columbia River. Our plans are pretty flexible so if we can find a good round of golf we can make sure we make it there. I%26#39;ll check out the suggestions.

Why apologize for your name? You%26#39;re not the only

Hawaii dreamer out there. If you are like the rest

of us, once you have been, it is hard to forget.

And easy to return. we are booked into Kauai for 4th time, and Maui for 3rd time, in Oct. We almost named our pup Kauai, but glad we did not.

As for golf. I am not great golfer 18 hcp once, but one course I like playing on central coast is Toledo. They put 9 holes where only 6 fit so had to go over a hill to get the other 3. plus it follows a creek with good flow. which also has a branch, fun little course. I grew up there and often played it with a friend who still lived there. He was pretty good golfer and enjoyed it.

Salishan is pretty good course south of Lincoln City.

But Mistletoe is right any avid golfer has to play at Bandon Dunes. I have driven up and checked it and can see why. but not sure I want to pay price.

Sandpines in Florence is highly rated, but we drove up and checked it. Must have been a bad time but the fairways looked pretty brown, while Bandon did not.

I have played several Portland sevaral courses, but not the great ones. If you want comment on some of the less expensive I could offer an idea or two.

Agreed... definitely Bandon Dunes!

And if you decide to venture further than Portland there are many great courses in Oregon. Tokatee (east of Eugene), Elkhorn (off the Santiam Hwy east of Salem), Juniper (in Redmond) and Aspen Lakes (in Sisters) are some of my BF%26#39;s faves!

Another place that gets good reviews is Crosswater at Sunriver (near Bend in Central Oregon). I haven%26#39;t played golf in years, but this is one place that some family members seem to like.

All good suggestions, but may I add another? The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club is just 20 minutes outside Portland and is a great place to play golf, hang out, relax, and fabulous dining. I recommend adding it to the list, www.reservegolf.com.

Mistletoe%26#39;s on the money:

In Portland, the cream of the crop is Pumpkin Ridge in North Plains. The Links at Tukwila is also a highly rated course in the Woodburn area.

On the Coast, it%26#39;s all Bandon Dunes. One of the best courses in the country, they say. Since you%26#39;ll be in Yachats...

In Central Oregon, it%26#39;s like Golf Paradise, take your pick! I really enjoy River%26#39;s Edge. Sunriver has three great courses - there are like 20 championship courses within an hour of Bend.

In Southern Oregon, The Running Y has a great Nicklaus-designed course in Klamath Falls.
